5 Common Recruiting Mistakes Business Owners Must Avoid – Ira S. Wolfe, Author of Recruiting in the Age of Googlization

Every business owner understands the importance of having a rock-solid recruitment strategy, and that means identifying and adjusting to the latest workforce trends. Here to discuss the competition for Gen Z talent, higher expectations for company culture, and new innovations in HR technology is Ira S. Wolfe, a self-proclaimed “Millennial Trapped in a Baby Boomer Body”. Ira is also the founder and President of Success Performance Solutions and best-selling author of Recruiting in the Age of Googlization.

Ira S. WolfeThe number one recruiting mistake that Ira sees among business owners is that they think recruiting struggles are regional or industry-specific. When in fact, it doesn’t matter the size or location of your business, there are issues in the recruiting space everywhere. The lack of technology and metrics in recruiting is another common mistake. Ira says you don’t have to be incredibly tech-savvy or use high-level AI applications, but to ignore technology all-together is problematic.

Another critical mistake is in the job application process. According to Ira, most businesses use the same application template that was used back in 1970. While that was fine back in the 70s, today 90 percent of people begin the job application process on their smartphone. Candidate experience is crucial too. Business owners should stand in the shoes of candidates and experience first-hand the pain points they might experience. Another mistake is employment branding. People have an abundance of choices right now, and businesses need to brand themselves appropriately in order to create distinction in the market.
